SAP BI 4.1 Deployment
Hi,
Requesting your guidance. We're planning to install SAP BI 4.1 SP7 on Windows Server 2012 R2 and use an existing Enterprise WAS 8.5.5 (installed in Solaris).
We understand all this technologies are in Supported platform guide.
We have seen the deployment guide for Unix and Windows and it seems it talks about Unix (BI) to Unix WAS and Windows (BI) to Windows WAS via wDeploy.
Ours is a mix combination, Windows (BI) to Unix WAS, will this work? Has anyone been able to make this combination work?
Regards,
Zahra
BO design studio addon crashes in EP
Dear all,
I have a customer, who would like to integrate some BO reports within Enterprise Portal 7.31 / 7.40. Used client browser is IE 11, Design Studion client and Portal addon are 1.5. So, we were able to use delivered DS iView to parameterize it with appopriate application id's and tryed to preview the content on EP resp build a role containing those reports.
Unfortunately this isnt working, since the DS iView crashing with JS errors:
As I have found out with the PAM of DS, NW addon (which Im using by deploying the appropriate SCA in EP and calling appropriate iView's, as far I got it) obviuosly is not supporting IE at all, but firefox and chrome cyclic rapid release.
Im pretty wondering why SAP is not supporting IE 11 (also not in DS 1.6) at all, since its the last supported IE version, which is used by many customers. May I ask the community if there is anybody, who had same problems regarding compatibility of used browsers and how to handle this?
I know, we can avoid problems like this, by opening the reports through a new popup URL iView with standard rendering mode, independently from used browser (works well for us also with IE 11), but this is in fact not the exact scenario my customer would like to realize. For my customer its important to find a constellation of involved components, which are official supported by SAP, but its not possible to role affected clients back to IE 10, I guess the reasons should be clear. Any thoughts on this? Thank you in advance,
cheers
Re: Setting up efashion for Launchpad
If I create a new Webi report from the Launchpad and look for the efashion universe it does not show it.
Do I need to import the efashion universe?
Re: Setting up efashion for Launchpad
OK, you may need to go to the Information Design Tool to publish the eFashion universe to the repository - it depends on your installation, version, etc.
Re: Setting up efashion for Launchpad
Thank you Tammy.
So does that mean I need to install the client tools software on the server in order to publish it via the IDT?
I assume I cannot do it from my own PC as the universe resides on the server.
Re: Setting up efashion for Launchpad
You can install the IDT and client tools on your own PC - assuming your PC meets the requirements outlined in the Product Availability Matrix
Re: Setting up efashion for Launchpad
I have got the client tools on my own PC but will this let me publish the universe that is stored on the server?
Might be a stupid question but I haven't publish a universe before so not entirely sure of the steps involved.
Re: Setting up efashion for Launchpad
Yes, assuming the connections are set up
The steps are covered in the Help (help.sap.com) and the IDT has in-built help too

Patrick,
Here is a great link that shows you step-by-step on how to convert your eFashion database to FREE MS SQL Express and info on Efashion UNV update.

Re: Setting up efashion for Launchpad
Thank you for that link Ajay.
Can I ask you, do I need to install the client tools on the server? I have the client tools on my PC and I can connect to the BI system from that, however I cannot see the eFashion universe or connection.
I can see other universes and connections that were set up previosuly but not the eFashion one. As Tammy mentioned I suspect I have to publish it but I cannot seem to see the eFashion database from the IDT or Universe Designer from my PC.
Re: Setting up efashion for Launchpad
Patrick,
You DO NOT need to install the client tools on the server, this is why we convert eFashion to a proper database. You need to make sure you system ODBC 32/64 bit must be the same between your development client and BI4 Platform Server.
- Create system ODBC 32/64bit called eFashion_SQL as an example.
- IDT/UDT will use the 32bit system ODBC
- BI4 Platform will use 64bi system ODBC
This is why the 32bit and 64bit ODBC must be the same.

Ajay

Information Design Tool
Hi Everybody,
sorry for the stupid question.
I have installed BI suite 4.2 version and I'm looking for Information Design Tool
Is it in a different installation? Is that in SAP Data Services Installation?
Any help is really appreciated
Ercole
Re: Information Design Tool
It is installed with BI Clients package
Sounds like you just installed the server?
Re: Information Design Tool
Hi Ercole,
As you wrote you have installed BI Suite 4.2, I guess you installed in the server. but as SAP recommend for accessing the BO server you must have a client machine in which you need to install BO Client tool. After installing client tool you ll be able to get Information Designing Tool (IDT) in it.
here attached the screen shot for your reference.
Re: Information Design Tool
Thanks very much for your answer.
Yes exactly. I installed the BI Suite 4.2
Can I install the Client tool on the same server?
Regards
Ercoel
Re: Information Design Tool
Yes, you can do this
Re: Information Design Tool
Thanks very much
Re: Information Design Tool
You can install but It is not recommend to install the client tool in the same machine.
