Re: Change Source Wizard's Object Mapping Finish button disabled

Hi Scott, thanks for this - I had a similar issue (BO4 SP4). My report had 3 .unv data providers  - the first passing a value to the second and the second passing a value to the third. When I tried to convert the report to .unx the issue manifested itself as a blank screen on the field mapping section of the change source wizard with no errors reported. I was on Java 1.6 and upgraded to Java 1.7_60 with no change before reading this thread. Breaking the dependencies between the data providers by replacing the data provider reference with a constant in the relevant filters per your post saved me recreating the report - many thanks!

Colin

SAP BW and BO authorization integration

$

Hi,

I am currently using SAP BO 4.0 SP6 on top SAP BW 7.31. I have users created on BO side and currently i am using predefined authentication type for connection to OLAP(BW) via BICS.

Now the requirement is to create Analysis authorization in SAP BW and use it SAP BO. The reason for requirement is that currently all the data is visible to all regional managers in Dashboards and Webi/crystal reports. Whereas, regional data should be visible to only relevant regional manager.

So now i have different users in BO and only one user in BW side which i am using for connecting to OLAP at backend using predefined authentication.

Now for the above requirement how do i achieve it. I am confused that SSO is compulsory or not. And also SAP charges you for each users. Already we have users created at BO side. Do I have to create users at BW side also or is it just possible to create auth. roles in BW and transport in BO and assign those roles to BO users via CMC? Also if SSO is compulsory what type of SSO should be created and how?

Please advise and help.

Is this the only way to embed Crystal reports or Infoview in NWBC?  Is there no way to setup single sign-on using SAPR3 authentication so that users logged into NWBC have full access to BI?

Hi Mohammed,

SSO is not compulsory in a set up where SAP BW is backend and reporting front end is SAP BO. For eg:- in a company where very few business users alone are using BO reports, we can create enterprise users and define our security model in SAP BO.

But normally when you have common users in SAP BW and SAP BO who access particular data mart data alone, in your case different regional managers, implementing SSO would make security model easier. When a particular manager is having access only to particular regional or application datamart, you can import same roles and users to SAP BO and assign the same to the user so that he will be restricted with the data from only assigned datamart.

In first case where you create separate users in BO, you will have to define your separate security model in SAP BO and assign the same to users. SSO will make your data security model easier and it will be sync with SAP BW model. You have the option to use both models simultaneously in your set up, provided you should have security model defined for the same.

Refer below link for more details on implementing SSO.

Hi Shane,

I have configured Single Sign-On and SAP Users have full access on this, still unable to view the Crystal Reports in NWBC. So I have done workaround as mentioned above to achieve this.

Please go through the below link to get better idea.

However, when the Bex queries are executing the using RSRT, then the F4 help is working fine for all the input variables.

Could you kindly help to resolve this issue.

Hi Tushar,

Can you please check whether you are able to create a new reports based on same connection ?

You mentioned that the reports were working fine and all of a sudden they are not working. Is there any change done recently in the BO security ?

Is admin user able to run the report ?

Pallavi

Hi Khader,

Could you please give below details :

1) SAP BI version  - 4.0/4.1?

2) Dashboard version ?

Please try below steps :

1) Open the dashboard in dashboard designer.

2) Go to query browser.

3) Refresh all queries individually with new prompt values.

4) Save and export the dashboard to enterprise.

5) Check the behavior.

Pallavi

Scot,

We have the same issue of reports with dependencies between multiple queries and unfortunately this isn't fixed in SP 9 as well.

Re: SAP BW and BO authorization integration

Hi Nikhil,

Thanks for your comments. There is one datamart containing all regions and reports are build on that. I have to restrict for each region to respective managers. This is not possible in BO directly we need analysis auth. in BW as my datamart on which the reports etc are build are in BW.

To do this we need to create analysis auth. roles in BW. My question is as i already have BO enterprise users created. Can i assign these BW roles to Enterprise users after importing roles into BO??(BW roles can be imported in BO using SSO only i guess??)

OR will i have to delete enterprise users, create users in BW with assigned roles and use SAP auth. while logging into BO?

I am confused!!

Hi Mohammed,

With SAP authentication only we can import BW roles into SAP BO system. So i don't think you will be able to assign these roles to Enterprise users.

But you can define a security model in your BO system for enterprise users. In your case, you can split reports region wise and keep in separate folders. Then based on region provide only respective folder access to your users. You can create custom roles and user groups and assign access to respective user groups.

I think it again based on user volume and complexity of your system to decide which way you can proceed. If users are less and structure is direct and simple, you can implement security model in BO itself for enterprise users.

Want to make fiscal quarters from fiscal periods in Info design tools

Dear Gurus:

I have new reporting requirement for fiscal quarters, currently I have fiscal periods and fiscal years in my business layers. I have two questions from you guys.

1) Which is the better way to achieve this. Should I try to make it in IDT or Should we make it in BW and then load data again. Also if there is an impact on performance choosing any of the options.

2) If I made it IDT how should I achieve this, considering I need prompt on fiscal quarters dimension.

Hi Jawad,

My take only, after attending several conferences on this

The recommendation is to do everything you can in BW and the BEx query.  In BI4.x all the front end tools talk to the BEx query.  Things will be faster if you let the BEx query do the work for you

The only reason to use IDT is if you have a multi-source universe.

Re: SAP BW and BO authorization integration

-     For BICS based reports, restriction on data/fields are applied at BW backend.

-     In BusinessObjects you can do that if you are using universe. You can use row level restrictions to restrict your data but then you are adding a semantic layer which might cause performance issue.

-     After security is applied on the data at BW backend then you can apply security(access levels) on the report/folder to restrict the view in LaunchPad/Infoview.

If all your reports are based on BW then its better to have SAP users with SSO.

This way your users automatically login and view reports without being prompted for BW creds and then based on the authorization being applied he sees what is supposed to. This also help when using BW data source in client tools.

Pavan

Hi Pallavi,

Thank you for  your reply.

These dashboards are built based on the SAP Netweawer connection type and integrated with enterprise portal.

It consumes data from BEx Queries. So we are not using the Query browser for dashboard connection.

Could you please suggest any other solution, which may help to resolve this issue.

Thanks,

Khader
