Re: Integrate BI Enterprise authentication with SAP BW with SSO

Hello Raju,

in case you talking about the user for the Entitlement System - yes that is a generic user but thats a user that your actual users will never see. The user will only be used for communication between the systems.

In regards to your scenario:

The BI platform has a concept of user aliases and a user could potentially logon with USERA in Enterprise Authentication but have USERB for SAP authentication setup as a user alias.

In general you will have to get the SAP authentication setup as otherwise you would not have the data level security towards the BW system.

I would suggest you sit down with the folks that have configured the Siteminder part and explain the issue as I am sure they already have solved a similar scenario

Hi Felix,

Run the report in Webi rich client and verify the behavior.

Webi server is not involved while running report in rich client so you can verify that.

Does any other report build on the same query work fine with prompts?

Follow steps provided by Reinaldo as well to narrow down the issue.

Pavan

Hi all,

Thanks for your answers. After trying lots of different things, I update the post with what I have found:

New webi document, on the same query BEx, prompts only take 3 seconds to appear.

This new webi report is just a flat table with all the fields in the query. Both queries in Webi are the same, so I bring the same objects.

The only difference I see between one document which takes 1 minute for prompts to appear, and the other document which only takes 3 seconds, it´s the complexity of what it shows. With this, I mean, that on one document it´s just a flat table, and on the other, there are more tables with calculations depending on user´s response to prompts.

I don´t see why this affects to the time it takes prompts to appear. Any clues?

Thanks!

Re: Configure CMC with Windows AD Authentication and BI 4.0 SP04 Patch 4

Hi Kevin,

SSO option for BI CMC is added in 4.1 SP6 and we are able to successfully configure it.

Create a blank CmcApp.properties to place in the custom folder with your global.properties, BI launchpad properties.

Then you need to ensure the following settings are in place

  • sso.types.and.order = chosen SSO method
  • sso.supported.types = chosen SSO method

Below is a sample file enabling vintela SSO

cms.default= CMS_NAME:6400

authentication.visible = true

cms.visible=true

sso.supported.types=vintela, trustedIS, trustedHeader, trustedParameter, trustedCookie,trustedSession,trustedUserPrincipal,trustedVintela,trustedX509,sapSSO,siteminder

authentication.default=secWinAD

Hope it works for you.

Hi Ingo

One more question, if I may...you had mentioned in one of your replies the following:

>>you should integrate the SAP and Enterprise Authentication by using Aliases on the BOE Server. The >>mapping doesn't have to be done manually assuming the user names are the same.

>>>You could also use scripting for this.

As I had mentioned, in our case, the BO IDs and BW IDs are not the same. Can we still use scripting to perform a '"Mass Alias Assign" ? If yes, can you please let me know the pointers to such scripting?

Regards

Raju

Hello Raju,

that is why I suggested it. The scripting would follow the standard BI Platform SDKs and there are different options - Java SDK, Rest API, ...

Hello Ingo

Thanks.

Couple of questions.

I went thru your blog from a long time 2008 ago ... a step by step process to setup SAP authentication. There you had mentioned a user and password (of entitlement user). The options screen has a checkbox for AUTOMATICALLY IMPORT USERS. But the current version does not. And when I configured the entitlement role exactly as in the admin manual and specified it in SAP Authentication. I was expecting to import the role and all the users (1000s of them) into BO. But when I specified a role for import, I could not see a single user being imported.  What may I be missing?

Secondly, once I am able to import users, then the question of assigning aliases arises. The scripts that you were mentioning above...are there any samples out there that I can use, to do assign aliasses in bulk ? May be usiing an excel file or something?

Regards

Raju

Hello Raju,

when you import the groups, the users will get imported - latest on their first logon.

As mentioned before the aliases will happen automatically assuming the user name is identical - otherwise it will have to be done manually or via scripting.

You can find the manual process also in the Admin Guide.

Hello Felix,

is the prompt in Web Intelligence based on the same variable in BW ?

Hello,

what is the URL that you entered in the Logon Dialog ?

Do you see the different authentications in the BI Launchpad, CMC ?

Hello Don,

so the only issue that is causing this is the BEx variable ?

what is the variable type ?

Hi Ingo,

Thanks for your answer.

Yes. I created a new webi but using the same BEx query, so the same variable in BW, and prompts appear quite fast. It seems it has something to do with the complexity of the document, although I thought this did not affect prompts performance.

Hello Felix,

and it shouldn't. is it only a specific document or do you see the behavior constantly reappearing ?

Hi Ingo,

It´s just this specific document, or if I copy it and do some changes. If I create a new one, and start replicating the same tables as the other document, it works well. What I don´t want is to replicate the whole document, which will take me a lot of time.

I´ve opened a note and given access. When I receive some answer I´ll try to post it here.

Thanks.

Kind regards,

Thanks Ingo for reaching out, and apologies for not responding immediately. I do not say this often, but this issue mysteriously just went away. It defied being isolated to a specific feature in the BEx designer. I began to suspect that it might be related to the middleware layer between BW and Crystal (BI Platform caching? BW to BI connectivity?) but as I mentioned, the issues seemed to vanish.

Sorry Balaji I cannot be of more assistance!

Hello Felix,

did you try for example to do a "set data source" - for example to a copy of the original query to see if that would somehow "reset" the connection ?

Can we trigger an alert for scheduled reports that have not triggered?

$

Hi All,

      I have a question regarding job scheduling and alerting. BOBJ has the capability of using alerts, events and triggers for a success or a failure state. But we seem to be having an issue where reports scheduled occassionally fail to tigger. The recurring job never seems to be creating an instance. When we restart the BI services on the servers manually, this issue seems to be fixed. However, we don't have an alert that notifies when the report does not trigger at the shceduled time.

My question now is if BOBJ has an alerting capability that would check if a report has been triggered at the scheduled time and sends a notification if it hasn't triggered? I've checked a lot of notes and SCN discussions but all seem to be addressing the Success/Failed state but nothing relevant to my case.

BOBJ 4.1 SP6 P2

BW 7.4 on HANA

Thanks & Regards,

Vijay Balagopala

FYI, I have seen this behavior in our 4.1 SP06/04 install, but have not seen the issue since patching to 4.1 SP06/05. It may be coincidental so I don't know if this will solve your solution. I could never replicate the issue, nor could I capture any pertinent information from the trace logs to search for a related incident.

Brian,

        We recently went live with 4.1 SP06 P2 last quarter and presenting a business case for another patching upgrade based on one issue wouldn't be a convincing one. I'm looking for an alerting solution as a primary workaround so I can at least be aware of the issue firsthand, while the BASIS team is working on finding the root cause and finding a permanent solution.

Thanks,

Vijay Balagopala
